SAN ANTONIO (AP) -Terence Newman is the self-proclaimed “old man of the group” in the Dallas Cowboys’ secondary. The cornerback has actually been around so long that he is almost the old man on the team.
Secondary coach Dave Campo says the 31-year-old Newman “gets a little better with age.”
That is good for Dallas since Newman is surrounded by a bunch of youngsters. Six of the other 13 defensive backs are rookies.
Newman is going into his eighth season and has been a Pro Bowler two of the last three.
Backup quarterback Jon Kitna and linebacker Keith Brooking are the only Cowboys older than Newman. Only ninth-year center Andre Gurode, who is six months younger, has been on the Dallas roster longer than Newman.
