SAN ANTONIO (AP) -Tony Romo no longer has a five-time Pro Bowl left tackle protecting his blindside for the Dallas Cowboys.
Doug Free has taken over at left tackle after expensive 35-year-old Flozell Adams was released by Dallas in the offseason.
Free has started only seven NFL games, on the other side of the line as an injury replacement last year. But the Cowboys don’t seem too concerned about the change going into a season with Super Bowl expectations.
Pro Bowl tight end Jason Witten says the tenacity Free plays with is contagious for the entire team. Coach Wade Phillips says the 6-foot-6, 320-pound Free has plenty of confidence.
Free had played one quarter the previous two seasons before appearing in every game last year.
