BETHLEHEM, Pa. (AP) -All-Pro guard Shawn Andrews was a no-show at Philadelphia Eagles training camp for a second day Friday.
Andrews is absent for personal reasons, and the team placed him on the reserve/did not report list.
“He’s not here and he wasn’t excused, and that’s as far as I’m going with it,” coach Andy Reid said after Friday’s practice, the first full-squad workout of training camp.
Andrews, a fifth-year veteran, also missed the final week of the team’s voluntary workouts last month for personal reasons. Because this absence is unexcused, he can be fined up to $15,000 for each day he misses.
Reid said he didn’t know when or if Andrews would report.
“I have no idea,” said Reid, who also denied a rumor that the Eagles were contemplating trading the two-time Pro Bowler. “I don’t get into that stuff anyway. I don’t know where people get all of this stuff.”
To fill Andrews’ spot on the roster, the Eagles signed guard Cameron Stephenson, who was released by Green Bay earlier this week.
Andrews is the only Eagles player not to report to training camp. Despite displeasure over their contracts, running back Brian Westbrook and cornerback Lito Sheppard reported on time Thursday and practiced Friday.
“I think it’s a positive,” Reid said. “I think the guys appreciate that. The coaches appreciate it. It shows they want to be out here playing football.”
Sheppard, who lost his starting spot at left corner when the team signed free agent Asante Samuel, rotated on the first team with Samuel and Sheldon Brown.
“I guess that’s what you get when you have an unresolved situation, you get rotated,” said Sheppard, who recently hired Drew Rosenhaus as his new agent. “My job is to come here, perform and play, and I’ll let my agent and the Eagles take care of everything else.
“Hopefully, they come up with something pretty soon.”
A two-time Pro Bowl selection, Sheppard’s leverage is hurt by his history of injuries. He has missed a combined 15 games, including playoffs, over the last three seasons because of injuries.
When healthy, Sheppard is a prolific playmaker. He has returned three of his 17 career interceptions for touchdowns and is the only player in league history with two such returns of more than 100 yards.
“I just want to go out and show everybody that I’m healthy and I am who I say I am and that I can still play this game at a high level,” Sheppard said. “So I’m going to let that speak for itself.”
