ORCHARD PARK, N.Y. (AP) -Stopping short of announcing his retirement, Buffalo Bills defensive end Aaron Schobel says he’s prepared to inform the team to “go on without me.”
That’s the message the nine-year NFL veteran told The Associated Press in a phone interview from his home in Texas on Thursday.
The 32-year-old Schobel, whose 78 career sacks rank second on the Bills to Bruce Smith, says he’s “leaning toward not playing.” He added that he’s not formally announcing his retirement in the event he has a last-minute change of heart.
Schobel said he has no intention of attending the team’s mandatory minicamp, which opens in less than two weeks.
Bills general manager Buddy Nix on Thursday reiterated that the team is still open to his return.
