NEW YORK (AP) -The NFL Players Association has filed a complaint alleging that when the league re-negotiated its contracts with television networks it deprived players of potential revenue.
The complaint says the league structured the contracts so it would be guaranteed money even if there is a lockout in 2011, in exchange for the networks paying less money before 2011 when the league would have to share that revenue with players. The union says that violates a 17-year-old agreement between the two sides.
An article posted on the union’s website Wednesday said it filed a complaint to the special master who oversees disputes between the two sides.
The NFL calls the accusations “meritless” and says they contain “many inaccuracies.”
