NEW YORK (AP) -James Dearth waited patiently at home for a call that never came.
Unemployed and unwanted after nine seasons with the New York Jets, the free agent long snapper recently put his house in New Jersey up for sale and his playing career on hold.
With no offers from any other teams, Dearth tells The Associated Press he’s unsure if he has played for the last time in the NFL.
New York decided to go younger at several positions, including Dearth’s. He wanted to re-sign with the Jets, but while his former teammates prepare for a run at the Super Bowl, Dearth is suddenly no longer part of New York’s plans.
If he can’t find a job in the NFL, the 34-year-old Dearth would welcome an opportunity to play in the United Football League.
