EAST RUTHERFORD, N.J. (AP) – The New York Giants closed out the NFL draft, taking University of Massachusetts running back Michael Cox in the seventh round.
A transfer from Michigan, Cox started 12 games for the Minutemen, gained 715 yards and scoring five touchdowns.
The pick is another need for New York, which released starting running back Ahmad Bradshaw after missing the playoffs with a 9-7 record. David Wilson, last year’s first-round draft pick, is the current starter on the depth chart backed by up by Andre Brown, who broke a non-weight-bearing bone in his leg.
The Giants finished the draft taking two offensive linemen, two defensive linemen, a running back and a safety, all needs. The biggest surprise was their first pick on Saturday, Syracuse quarterback Ryan Nassib.
