NEWPORT NEWS, Va. (AP) -Suspended NFL star Michael Vick says his time in federal prison has given him time to think.
Vick took the stand in a Virginia bankruptcy court on Friday morning as part of a hearing to assess how he’ll emerge from financial ruin after his 23-month sentence for bankrolling a dogfighting ring.
The ex-Atlanta Falcons quarterback says he committed a “heinous” act that was very irresponsible. He says he’s spent his time in prison reading, writing and working a 12-cent-an-hour job as a janitor.
He told the court: “I can’t live like the old Mike Vick. I was very immature. I did a lot of things I wasn’t supposed to do being a role model.”
Vick is expected to be released from custody in July. His agent said Thursday he hopes Vick can be back with the NFL by September.
