Sports attorney David Cornwell has the written support of three NFLPA player representatives, putting himself back in the running to take over as the union’s executive director to replace the late Gene Upshaw.
NFLPA spokesman Carl Francis confirmed on Thursday that Cornwell has been added to the list of candidates, which also includes Trace Armstrong, DeMaurice Smith and Troy Vincent. The union is scheduled to select its new leader during a vote on March 15 at its annual meeting in Hawaii.
Cornwell was eliminated as a candidate in January. But under NFLPA rules, anyone can be placed on the ballot with the written support of three player representatives, provided the documentation is submitted at least 10 days before the election.
