TAMPA, Fla. (AP) – A dock owner says two or three charter boats left a marina to search for two NFL players and a third man missing for four days since their boat capsized off the Florida Gulf coast.
Don Beggs say at least one the boats that left Wednesday from St. Petersburg had family members of one or more of the missing men aboard.
The families of Oakland Raiders linebacker Marquis Cooper, free-agent NFL defensive lineman Corey Smith and former South Florida player William Bleakley are appealing for private boaters and pilots to continue searching.
Authorities called off the official hunt Tuesday, saying if there were any other survivors, they would have been found. A fourth man aboard the boat was rescued Monday.
won’t prevent the searches but discouraged them.
