DENVER (AP) -Cornerback Andre Goodman reached an agreement on a five-year deal Sunday night with the Denver Broncos, a team that’s been busy retooling their secondary through free agency.
Goodman, who helped the Miami Dolphins turn around their season last year, is the third defensive back the Broncos have lured to Denver since free agency began late last week. The team also added veteran safeties Brian Dawkins and Renaldo Hill, who’s played with Goodman in Miami for the last three seasons.
Goodman’s deal is worth up to $25.2 million, with more than $10 million of it guaranteed.
The Broncos have made defense a high priority this offseason after ranking at or near the bottom in every major defensive category last year, when they surrendered 448 points.
l manager Brian Xanders jettisoned five defensive starters and cleared $37 million in cap room.
Goodman will team up with star cornerback Champ Bailey in Denver.
“Andre’s very happy about the whole situation,” his agent, Jason Chayut, said. “Look at that secondary, it’s tremendous. He’s really excited.”
Goodman started 16 games with the Dolphins last season, leading the team with five interceptions and 19 pass breakups.
