ALAMEDA, Calif. (AP) -The Oakland Raiders finally made a coaching decision, bringing Mike Waufle back as defensive line coach.
The move announced Friday comes as head coach Tom Cable’s status remains in limbo nearly three weeks after the end of the regular season.
Waufle was an assistant in Oakland from 1998-2003, helping the Raiders go to the Super Bowl following the 2002 season. He spent the past six seasons with the New York Giants. He coached the defensive line that was key to New York’s Super Bowl victory over New England two years ago. Waufle was fired earlier this month.
While owner Al Davis has not decided whether to bring Cable back next season, the news release announcing Waufle’s hiring pointed out that Waufle and Cable worked together for six years at California.
