CLEVELAND (AP) – The Cleveland Browns have interviewed New York Giants defensive coordinator Perry Fewell to be their coach.
Fewell is the third known candidate to formally meet with Browns president Mike Holmgren, who fired Eric Mangini last week. The Browns have also interviewed St. Louis offensive coordinator Pat Shurmur and Atlanta offensive coordinator Mike Mularkey.
It’s not yet clear if the Browns have scheduled any more interviews or follow-ups. Philadelphia offensive coordinator Marty Mornhinweg is believed to be a candidate because of his personal and professional connections with Holmgren.
Fewell, 48, just finished his first season with the Giants. He also interviewed with Denver and Carolina.
Fewell’s visit means the Browns have complied with the NFL’s Rooney Rule requirement that they interview at least one minority candidate.
