NEW YORK (AP) -It has been a good weekend for road trips in the NFL playoffs.
With Baltimore, Arizona and Philadelphia all winning away from home, it marked the first time since 1971 – and only second time overall – that three road teams won on the same weekend in the playoffs, according to the Elias Sports Bureau.
San Diego was at Pittsburgh on Sunday night, trying to make it an NFL-record four victorious road teams in one playoff weekend.
Baltimore edged Tennessee 13-10 and Arizona routed Carolina 33-13 on Saturday, and Philadelphia knocked off the defending Super Bowl champion New York Giants 23-11 on Sunday.
During the weekend of Dec. 25-26, 1971, the Baltimore Colts won 20-3 at Cleveland, Miami edged Kansas City 27-24 in overtime, and Dallas topped Minnesota 20-12. The only home team to win that weekend was San Francisco, which defeated Washington 24-20.
The Cowboys went on to beat the Dolphins 24-3 in the Super Bowl that season at New Orleans’ Tulane Stadium.
