CINCINNATI (AP) -The Cincinnati Bengals, saddled with a defense that again finished near the bottom of the league, fired defensive coordinator Chuck Bresnahan and linebackers coach Ricky Hunley on Wednesday.
``These are very difficult decisions that affect the lives of coaches and their families,'' head coach Marvin Lewis said in a statement. ``But after meeting with all our coaches, I determined that it was necessary to make these changes.''
The Bengals finished 7-9, the team's first losing season under Lewis.
Bresnahan was with the Bengals for four seasons. He joined the team as an assistant coach in 2004 after serving as defensive coordinator for the Oakland Raiders. Bresnahan was defensive coordinator for the Bengals for the past three seasons.
Hunley had been the Bengals' linebackers coach for the past five seasons.
