Saints favored to regain NFC South
CHICAGO, IL (The Spread) – The New Orleans Saints look to claim first in the NFC South tonight when they face the Chicago Bears on ESPN Monday Night Football.
The Saints are coming off a surprising 41-10 loss to the Carolina Panthers at home. New Orleans has lost four of its last five to drop to 5-8 on the season, but all four losses were on the road. Despite all that, with a win, the Saints will take a ½ game lead on the Panthers for first in the NFC South. The Saints are 5-8 against the spread on the season and 1-4 ATS in their last five. They have been favored in eight of their last 10, going 2-6 ATS in those eight games.
Chicago is coming off a 41-28 loss to Dallas last Thursday. The Bears have now lost two straight and are 5-8 on the season and out of the playoff chase. The Bears are also having issues in the locker room, as many are questioning the leadership of quarterback Jay Cutler, including some of his coaches. Chicago is 5-8 against the spread this season and 2-5 ATS in its last seven.
Oddsmakers like the Saints on the road tonight, as oddsmakers from Bovada.lv have made New Orleans the favorite on the road, as they are getting odds of -3 points against the Bears. The over/under total for the game has been set at 54 points (View Matchup). The home team has won four of the last five between these two and they have both gone 2-2-1 against the spread in their last five meetings.
This game will likely be about the Saints’ passing attack against the Bears’ passing defense. Chicago currently ranks 31st in passing defense, allowing 265.5 yards per game through the air. The Saints are throwing for 297.3 yards per game on offense. Drew Brees has 3,983 passing yards with 28 touchdowns and 12 interceptions this season.
