49ers vs. Falcons Pick
The struggling San Francisco 49ers face another tough challenge this weekend when they travel south to take on the Atlanta Falcons at 1:00PM ET. Let’s take a look at this matchup and hand out a pick for the game.
Before making a pick for Sunday’s game, let’s take a look at the odds.
Oddsmakers from online sports book BroburySports.com have made the Falcons a 7-point home favorite over the 49ers in Week 4. The over/under total for this game has been set at 42.5.
The 49ers find themselves in turmoil heading into this game after Mike Singletary decided to fire offensive coordinator Jimmy Raye on Monday. Mike Johnson will now call the offensive plays for the Niners and hope to breath some life into a dead unit.
The Falcons earned a huge road win last weekend in New Orleans after knocking off the Saints in overtime. Matt Ryan was outstanding, as was his offensive teammates Michael Turner, Tony Gonzalez, Jason Snelling and Roddy White. His offensive line also did a great job protecting him and the defense forced three turnovers.
The Free Pick:
Everything points to the way of the Falcons, which has me more concerned than encouraged. There’s no doubt Atlanta is the better team and the last time the Falcons were at home, they crushed the Cardinals, 41-7. But they’re also coming off a huge win over a divisional opponent and now have to face a non-divisional foe at home. And a 0-3 non-divisional opponent to boot. That’s why my pick for this game is the 49ers +7. The Falcons are due for a natural letdown and while I don’t think San Fran will win outright, they could surprise people this weekend under Johnson. They also have revenge on their minds after the Falcons absolutely waxed them in San Francisco last year. All signs point to a closer game than people expect this weekend at the Georgia Dome.
