2013 NFL Odds: Rushing Yards
(The Spread) – Will Adrian Peterson be crowned the rushing champion again in 2013?
According to oddsmakers from online sports book Bovada.lv, Peterson is the favorite to rush for the most yards this NFL season at 11/4, while Marshawn Lynch of the Seahawks has the next-best odds at 7/1. Both Doug Martin of the Bucs and Arian Foster of the Texans are 10/1, respectively.
Peterson compiled one of the greatest rushing performances in NFL history last year when he racked up 2,097 yards for the Vikings. The next closest back was Alfred Morris of the Redskins, who was 484 yards behind AP at 1,613 yards. Heading into 2013, Morris is 12/1 to record the most rushing yards in 2013.
Foster seems to be overvalued at 10/1, especially considering the latest reports that the Texans will “ease” him into the regular season. He’s been dealing with an injury this offseason and has a ton of tread on his tires, so one would think Houston would get backup running back Ben Tate more involved this season. If that were to happen, Foster’s value at 10/1 is significantly suppressed.
One sleeper bettors may want to consider for this prop odd is Bills running back C.J. Spiller, who finished with the same 6.0 yards per carry average as Peterson did last season. But he was highly underused by the previous coaching staff in Buffalo, as is 207 rushing attempts illustrate. For comparison sake, Peterson finished with 348 rushing attempts and Spiller still managed 1,244 yards on the ground. At 14/1, there’s a ton of value in Spiller heading into the season.
One other sleeper that bettors may want to consider is Chris Johnson of the Titans, who is currently 18/1 to win the rushing title in 2013. Tennessee vastly upgraded its offensive line this offseason, signing guard Andy Levitre and investing a high-round pick in fellow interior lineman Chance Warmack in the draft. The offensive line was a huge issue for the Titans a year ago and if Johnson can recapture some of the magic he had from his 2009 season when he rushed for 2,006 yards, he’ll be worth bettors’ investment.
