Chiefs Season Odds
After a busy offseason, the Kansas City Chiefs are hoping that they could become the next NFL team to make a quick, one-season turnaround.
The Chiefs made a ton of changes this offseason, including hiring former New England Patriots GM Scott Pioli to fill the same role in Kansas City. Pioli then hired Todd Haley to replace Herm Edwards as head coach and the team also added Clancy Pendergast as defensive coordinator. Haley and Pendergast each worked with each other in Arizona, where they helped lead the Cardinals to a Super Bowl appearance last season.
Pioli made a slew of moves this offseason, but none bigger than trading for former Patriots quarterback Matt Cassel, whom the Chiefs gave up a second round pick in 2009 for. KC also signed free agents Mike Goff, Zach Thomas and Bobby Engram, but lost long-time tight end Tony Gonzalez when they traded him to the Atlanta Falcons.
Oddsmakers from online sports book SBGGLOBAL have made the Chiefs 45/1 long shots to win Super Bowl XLIV. They also gave Chiefs 40/1 odds to win the AFC and 10/1 odds to win the AFC West.
Last season, the Falcons hired a new GM (Thomas Dimitroff), a new head coach (Mike Smith) and found a franchise quarterback in Matt Ryan. With so much change, nobody thought that the Falcons would amount to much in 2008, but they went to the postseason and lost to the eventual NFC Champions the Cardinals. Could the Chiefs be the Falcons of 2010? Pioli is a mastermind GM, Haley was a miracle worker in Arizona last year and Cassel already has valuable NFL experience after playing for New England all last season. At 45/1 odds to win Super Bowl XLIV or 40/1 odds to win the AFC, the Chiefs could be the ultimate sleeper. Of course, a lot of KC’s success this year will depend on whether or not they hang onto running back Larry Johnson.
