Patriots off the books
FOXBOROUGH, MA (TheSpread) – The report on Deflate-Gate was released on Wednesday and now the New England Patriots are facing some potential fines and suspensions.
After months of investigation, the 243-page Wells Report was released on Wednesday and it ultimately stated that it is probable that the Patriots personnel deliberately deflated balls during the AFC Championship Game last season and that Tom Brady was at least generally aware that it was taking place. The question now is about what penalty the Patriots and Brady will face.
According to the latest oddsmakers at Bovada.lv, they anticipate some sort of penalty for New England and Brady, as they have removed the Patriots from any futures odds as of now. Following the Super Bowl, New England opened with 7/1 odds to repeat as champs next season and they odds were moved up to 15/2 before the report came out.
There is some anticipation that Brady will face a suspension for his role in all this. Some have speculated two games, others four. Some have speculated as strong a penalty of eight games. With that being unknown, it is hard for oddsmakers to know what to think of the Patriots next season. Cleary, without Brady, the team would be facing an uphill battle to repeat. The team would turn to Jimmy Garoppolo, a second-year NFL quarterback, if Brady is suspended. He has thrown just 27 passes in his pro career, completing 19 of them for 182 yards with one touchdown.
