Latest Super Bowl XLIX Odds
GLENDALE, AZ (The Spread) – The talk and hype is over. It is finally time to get down to business. Here is a look at the final odds for Super Bowl XLIX heading into Sunday’s 6:30PM ET kickoff.
The New England Patriots are the AFC champions and they are appearing in their sixth Super Bowl in this Bill Belichick-Tom Brady era. The Patriots went 12-4 during the regular season, winning the AFC East. The Pats then defeated the Ravens 35-31 and the Colts 45-7 in the playoffs to reach this game. New England is 10-8 against the spread in its 18 games while hitting the over 11 times. They come into this game 1-3 against the spread in their last four while hitting the under in five of their last eight.
The Seattle Seahawks are looking to be the first repeat Super Bowl champions since the Patriots did it 10 years ago. Seattle also went 12-4 during the regular season, claiming the NFC West title. The Seahawks then went on to beat the Panthers 31-17 and then beat the Packers, 28-22 in OT in the NFC Championship. Seattle was 10-7-1 against the spread this season while hitting the over in 10 of the 18 games. Seattle comes into this game having won eight straight while going 6-1-1 against the spread in those eight games. Seattle has hit the over in three of its last four.
According to oddsmakers from Bovada.lv, the Patriots are the favorite in this game, as they are currently getting odds of -1.5 points against the Seahawks. The latest over/under total has been set at 47.5 points (View Matchup). These two last met in 2012, with Seattle getting a 24-23 win at home. Seattle has won six of its last eight games with the Patriots, also covering the spread in six of those eight games. These two have hit the over in their last three meetings.
The big focus of this game is likely to be on the battle of Tom Brady against the Seattle pass defense. Brady is arguably the top quarterback in NFL history and threw for just nine interceptions during the season, but he meets a Seattle pass defense that allowed an NFL-fewest 185.6 yards per game through the air this season. Seattle had 13 interceptions and 66 pass deflections as a unit this year as well. For the Seahawks, the offense will have to avoid turnovers. They had five in the NFC Championship, which nearly cost them the game. Russell Wilson has been good at managing games this season, throwing just seven interceptions during the regular season, but he had four in the NFC Championship. That can’t happen today if Seattle is going to win.
