The Bucs produced the upset of the day by knocking off the Saints 23-13 in New Orleans on Sunday. According to NFL Week 17 odds and oddsmakers from online sports book Sportsbook.com, the Bucs were 7.5-point underdogs coming into the game and wound up winning outright.
The Falcons had no trouble with the lowly Panthers as they crushed Carolina 31-10 to clinch the NFC South division and home field throughout the playoffs. Atlanta was a 14-point favorite entering Week 17.
The Steelers clinched the AFC North and the No. 2 seed in their conference by beating the Browns, 41-9. Pittsburgh was a 6.5-point favorite at kickoff and easily covered on the road. Ben Roethlisberger threw for 280 yards and Mike Wallace had 105 receiving yards and a huge touchdown in the first quarter
The Raiders surprised the Chiefs by knocking off Kansas City 31-10 at Arrowhead. The Chiefs were 4.5-point favorites and with the loss (coupled with the Colts’ win over the Titans), Kansas City dropped from the No. 3 seed to the No. 4 seed. They’ll play the Ravens next weekend in the Wildcard Round.
The Texans eliminated the Jaguars from the playoffs with their 34-17 win as 4.5-point favorites. Jacksonville would have been eliminated even had they won, as Peyton Manning led the Colts to a 23-20 win over the Titans. (Indy failed to cover as a 10-point favorite, however.)
Even though the Giants beat the Redskins 17-14, they were officially eliminated from the playoffs when the Packers hung on to beat the Bears, 10-3. Green Bay’s defense and special teams played the game of the year, as Dom Capers’ unit held Jay Cutler to only 168 passing yards.
In the Sunday night game, the Seahawks beat the Rams 16-6 as a 3-point underdog to win the NFC West and clinch a playoff berth. Seattle will now face New Orleans in the first round of the playoffs next weekend.
