SAN ANTONIO (AP) – Arizona quarterback Nick Foles returns to his native Texas with four straight losses, no national ranking and going after a third consecutive eight-win season.
Foles isn’t complaining, though. The Wildcats (7-5) say the program is making progress under seventh-year coach Mike Stoops, who goes for his second bowl victory Wednesday night against No. 16 Oklahoma State (10-2) in the Alamo Bowl.
Arizona started the season 7-1 and was ranked 13th in the nation. But the Wildcats went in a tailspin the final month, getting pummeled by then-No. 10 Stanford and proving no match for top-ranked Oregon.
Foles says they’ve put the losing skid behind them. Arizona is the first Pac-10 team in the Alamo Bowl since 1994, after the game ended a 15-year run with the Big Ten.
