AUSTIN, Texas (AP) -The No. 2 Texas Longhorns are getting back to basics before delving into their game plan for facing No. 1 Alabama in the national championship game.
Coach Mack Brown reconvened his team last week and has been putting them through practices that emphasize fundamentals and physical play.
He’s lining up the first-team offense against the first-team defense and letting them pound on each other to keep them as sharp as possible during the monthlong stretch between their victory in the Big 12 title game and the BCS title game at the Rose Bowl on Jan. 7. They will start focusing on the Crimson Tide after a break for Christmas.
He’s done it this way for several years, and for good reason. Texas has won five straight bowl games.
