DETROIT (AP) -A person familiar with the negotiations says Central Michigan football coach Butch Jones has agreed to a 5-year deal with Cincinnati.
The person spoke to The Associated Press on Wednesday on the condition of anonymity because the contract has not been signed.
At Central Michigan, Jones succeeded former Cincinnati coach Brian Kelly, who was recently hired at Notre Dame. Jones led the Chippewas to a pair of Mid-American Conference titles in three seasons.
This marks the second time in three years that the Bearcats turned to the Mid-American Conference school for their head coach. They hired Kelly after his three-year stay at Central Michigan, where his spread offense was one of the nation’s best.
