TALLAHASSEE, Fla. (AP) -A parting piece of advice from Florida State coach Bobby Bowden to successor Jimbo Fisher: “Do it your way.”
Though Fisher’s way could look a lot like Bowden’s way.
Fisher says a lot of his “principles and values and the way I do things came from coach Bowden.”
One thing that could be different – Fisher wants to make sure he recruits smart players.
Fisher Monday addressed an ESPN report that some recent FSU players couldn’t read.
Fisher says players with bad grades usually aren’t good players.
He says, “Why would I want a guy who’s not going to be good in the classroom because I’ve got to teach them the same things on the field.”
Bowden will retire after Florida State plays West Virginia in the Gator Bowl.
