CARROLLTON, Ga. (AP) -Daryl Dickey, the former Tennessee quarterback who spent six seasons as Florida State’s quarterback coach, took over the West Georgia program Wednesday.
Dickey replaces Mike Ledford, who resigned in November. The 25-year-old coaching veteran, the son of former Tennessee and Florida head coach Doug Dickey, was out of football this year after his contract was not renewed at Florida State.
Dickey spent four seasons at Presbyterian, guiding the Blue Hose to a 9-2 record in 2000, which was the school’s best record since 1979. He spent two seasons as the offensive coordinator and quarterback coach at Georgia Southern.
In 1985, Dickey led the Southeastern Conference in passing efficiency while at Tennessee, and had stints with the San Diego Chargers and the USFL’s Memphis Showboats.
He inherits a team that finished 10th in the Gulf South Conference and had an 2-9 record this season.
