SOUTH BEND, Ind. (AP) -ESPN.com is reporting that quarterback Jimmy Clausen is leaving Notre Dame early for the NFL.
Clausen told ESPN.com on Monday that he feels it’s the right time and that he came to the decision after talking to fired coach Charlie Weis on Friday. Clausen’s father, Jim Sr., declined comment when reached by The Associated Press
The school said Clausen and receiver Golden Tate had scheduled a news conference for Monday afternoon to announce their plans. Tate also met Friday with Weis.

Tate had 93 catches for 1,496 yards with 15 receiving TDs and two rushing TDs and a punt return for a touchdown.
