STATE COLLEGE, Pa. (AP) -Joe Paterno is looking for a little help from Mother Nature when Penn State meets Florida in the Outback Bowl.
The Nittany Lions leader worries about the Gators’ speed. So he thinks a soggy field in Tampa on Jan. 1 could help even things out in the marquee coaching matchup with Florida’s Urban Meyer.
Rain played a factor in Penn State’s victory last season at the muddy Capital One Bowl over LSU.
JoePa is the all-time leader in bowl wins with 24.
Paterno said Monday in a conference call that Matt McGloin will likely stay at quarterback after starting the last five games of the regular season, while top linebacker Michael Mauti should play against Florida after being hampered in recent weeks by a right shoulder injury.
