HUNTSVILLE, Texas (AP) -Sam Houston State has fired coach Todd Whitten after a 5-6 season and a fifth-place finish in the Southland Conference.
Athletic director Bobby Williams said Monday he decided there was “need of a revised outlook and approach” after the season that saw the Bearkats finish 3-4 in the eight-team conference in the Football Championship Subdivision, formerly Division I-AA.
Williams named no successor.
Whitten’s teams had compiled a 25-28 record since he was hired in 2005 to replace Ron Randleman. In six seasons at Division II Tarleton State, Whitten’s teams went 45-23.
