BATON ROUGE, La. (AP) -It was all falling into place for Alabama, at least until the Crimson Tide fell flat on the bayou.
Nick Saban says he was worried about all the talk of the wins the Crimson Tide needed to string together in order to get to the SEC championship game and defend their national title.
The coach worried it would distract his players from focusing on fundamentals and it turns out he was right.
Despite being 6 1/2-point favorites, Alabama gave up several big plays and fell for some vintage Les Miles trickery in Saturday’s 24-21 loss at LSU. The result drops Alabama to No. 11 and likely has knocked them out of national title contention.
The Tigers have now replaced Alabama at No. 5 and in second place in the SEC West.
