ARKADELPHIA, Ark. (AP) -They call it the shortest road trip in college football.
On Saturday, the Henderson State Reddies will walk across a small Arkansas highway to play at Ouachita Baptist in a rivalry that’s been going for more than a century. The Division II teams play in a shallow valley just north of downtown Arkadelphia.
Pranks are as big a part of the game as blitzes and field goals. By midday Thursday, someone had slapped red paint on a cannon at the end of Ouachita’s field. Henderson State’s colors are red and gray.
One year, a half-century ago, Henderson State students even managed to kidnap the Ouachita homecoming queen.
