STATE COLLEGE, Pa. (AP) – Evan Royster ran for 150 yards and two touchdowns, quarterback Matt McGloin threw for a score and the Nittany Lions held off dual-threat star Denard Robinson and Michigan’s second-half rally for a 41-31 win Saturday night.
Royster had 99 yards and his two scores in the first half alone against the Wolverines’ Big Ten-worst defense. He also broke the school career rushing record of 3,398 previously held by Curt Warner.
Coach Joe Paterno is now a victory away from his 400th career win.
The Wolverines (5-3, 1-3 Big Ten) have lost their third straight after a 5-0 start. Robinson ran for three touchdowns and 191 yards, including a 4-yard score to cut a 21-point lead to seven with 9-plus minutes left.
But Collin Wagner kicked a 42-yard field goal on the next series to give Penn State (5-3, 2-2) a two-possession lead, as the Nittany Lions won their second straight.
