INDIANAPOLIS (AP) – The NFL Players Association says it opposes punishing its members for any rules violations that might have occurred in college.
The union issued the statement Wednesday. It is working with the league, the American Football Coaches Association and the NCAA to devise a solution for making sure players play by the rules after a series of high-profile incidents involving agents.
Chicago-based agent Rick Smith is a member of that panel. He says nothing is off the table when it comes to handing down post-college punishments to NFL rookies. He told The Associated Press solutions still being discussed include possible suspensions for players after they turn pro.
A formal proposal, Smith says, is not expected for at least three months.
