COLUMBIA, S.C. (AP) – South Carolina freshman TeMarcus Blanton had hip surgery Friday
Gamecocks coach Frank Martin said Blanton sustained the injury to his left hip at practice earlier in the week. The school in a statement that Blanton’s condition will be released when available. The school did not say how long Blanton might be out.
Blanton becomes the latest member of South Carolina’s four-man recruiting class to be sidelined. Forward James Thompson did not enroll after an allegation of assault in his home state of Louisiana and forward Shamiek Sheppard tore a knee ligament earlier this summer and is out for the season.
Blanton is a 6-foot-5 guard from Locust Grove, Georgia, who averaged 20 points and eight rebounds his senior season at Luella High School.
