MIAMI (AP) -The family and friends of slain Connecticut football player Jasper Howard gathered Sunday for a viewing at a Miami mortuary.
Howard, a 20-year-old cornerback, was fatally stabbed during an altercation outside a dance on Connecticut’s campus early last Sunday.
Police this weekend searched storm drains and a lake on the University of Connecticut campus near where the stabbing occurred.
The state police dive team spent Saturday at Swan Lake, near the entrance of the UConn campus. Authorities would not say what, if anything, was recovered.
Connecticut State Police spokesman Lt. J. Paul Vance referred questions to the UConn police, who declined to comment.
No one has been charged in Howard’s death.
Police have made just one arrest in connection with the fight. Johnny Hood, 21, of Hartford, faces charges of breach of peace and interfering with police. He is not charged with the stabbing.
r Sunday afternoon. Funeral service for Howard will be held Monday at New Birth Baptist Church in Miami, his hometown. The entire UConn football team is scheduled to attend.
