AUBURN, Ala. (AP) – Auburn quarterback Cam Newton set the school record for touchdowns rushing and passing in a season.
Newton broke Heisman Trophy winner Pat Sullivan’s 40-year-old mark with a 49-yard touchdown run in the third quarter. He came in leading the nation with 13 scores passing and 12 rushing for the No. 5 Tigers.
Newton had a 1-yard touchdown run in the first quarter. On his next score, he righted himself with his right hand after nearly getting tripped up.
Then, the Heisman Trophy candidate juked two defenders and dragged LSU cornerback Patrick Peterson into the end zone with 11:10 left in the third.
