STORRS, Conn. (AP) -UConn football coach Randy Edsall says the players who were with Jasper Howard when he was killed are ready to play Saturday against West Virginia.
Edsall said Thursday that he had been concerned about the mental state of receivers Kashif Moore and Mike Smith.
Moore held Howard in his arms after his teammate was fatally stabbed outside a campus dance early Sunday. Edsall had said earlier that another player put pressure on the wound and identified him Thursday as Smith.
Edsall says there is nobody on the team, “from an emotional standpoint, who is not ready to play.”
The Huskies will wear helmet stickers with Howard’s initials on them and will take his jersey and helmet to Morgantown for Saturday’s game.
