CHAMPAIGN, Ill. (AP) – Injured Michigan tailback Mike Hart did not suit up for the Wolverines’ game against Illinois on Saturday night.
Hart, who has an ankle injury, was on the sideline in street clothes.
Hart injured his right ankle last weekend in Michigan’s 48-21 win over Purdue. He didn’t play in the second half of that game, but the Wolverines (5-2, 3-0) had built a comfortable 31-7 lead.
Michigan coach Lloyd Carr was secretive about Hart’s status this week. Even Hart’s mother, Rory Rushlow, said during the week that she didn’t know whether Hart would play.
Hart began the day as the country’s leading rusher, averaging 154 yards a game.
