(Eds: APNewsNow. Will be updated. With AP Photos.) By JEFF LATZKE AP College Football Writer NORMAN, Okla. (AP) - Quarterback Landry Jones is on the verge of making history with No. 13 Oklahoma. With a win Saturday in the Red River Rivalry game against No. 15 Texas (4-1, 1-1 Big 12), Jones would break the school record for victories set by Steve Davis in the 1970s. Davis went 32-2 as the Sooners' quarterback, winning national championships in 1974 and '75. Jones is 32-8 in his fourth year as the starter for the Sooners (3-1, 1-1). With the record approaching, Davis wrote Jones a letter encouraging him to keep leading his team no matter what happens. Jones committed two key turnovers in a loss to Kansas State two games ago, then bounced back with a solid outing to beat Texas Tech last week and tie Davis' record. |
