WEST POINT, N.Y. (AP) – Temple running back Bernard Pierce has been scratched for the Owls’ game against Army at Michie Stadium.
Pierce had to be helped off the field midway through the third quarter a week ago in Temple’s loss at No. 22 Penn State. The injury was diagnosed as a high sprain on his right ankle and he had been listed as a gametime decision for the Army game.
The school announced he wouldn’t play just before kickoff Saturday.
Pierce, who was being touted by the school as a Heisman Trophy candidate, leads Temple with 343 yards rushing on 66 carries and has scored five touchdowns.
