Running backs have reclaimed the spotlight in the Southeastern Conference.
With South Carolina’s Marcus Lattimore and several impressive tailback tandems leading the way, the SEC’s top teams have ridden sturdy ground games to early success.
Lattimore ranks third nationally in rushing but five other SEC backs also rank among the top 31 even though several are divvying carries with productive backfield mates. LSU, Florida and Alabama each have two backs among the league’s top 10.
Alabama hasn’t missed a beat with Trent Richardson and Eddie Lacy. Florida’s Chris Rainey and Jeff Demps are leading the SEC’s top ground game. For LSU, it’s Spencer Ware and Michael Ford carrying the load.
No relief’s in sight for SEC defenses. Six of the top 10 runners are underclassmen, including Georgia freshman Isaiah Crowell.
