BOISE, Idaho (AP) -Boise State coach Chris Petersen isn’t about to dial down the aggression and emotion his team has shown this season.
But he’d also like to see his No. 3 Broncos play with a little more smarts, especially at critical times.
Boise State (3-0) beat No. 24 Oregon State on Saturday night 37-24. The margin could have been bigger if not for eight penalties, including two personal fouls that led to a third-quarter touchdown that pulled the Beavers within seven points.
So far this season, the Broncos are averaging 77.7 yards in penalties per game.
Petersen says there is a fine line between playing aggressively but avoiding late hit or taunting penalties.
He says players will be reminded to play smart in preparation for Saturday’s game at New Mexico State.
