STATE COLLEGE, Pa. (AP) – Penn State’s Joe Paterno coached the first half of Saturday’s game against Eastern Michigan from the sideline before returning to the press box after halftime.
The Hall of Famer had made his first appearance on the field this season since getting hurt in practice last month.
The 84-year-old Paterno injured his right shoulder and pelvis after a receiver accidentally crashed into him during preseason drills Aug. 7. Paterno coached the first three games this season from the press box .
Wearing his familiar khakis and black sneakers, Paterno arrived at Beaver Stadium on Saturday carrying a forearm crutch on his arm. But he did not use it as he walked into the locker room.
Paterno moved upstairs with the Nittany Lions leading 17-0 at halftime.
