PROVIDENCE, R.I. (AP) -A Brown University football player has been convicted of misdemeanor assault in connection with a fight in a bar where he was working as a bouncer.
David Howard was found guilty of simple assault Tuesday after a two-day bench trial.
Judge Madeline Quirk sentenced the 22-year-old player to one year of probation and ordered him to pay court costs.
The defensive tackle was accused of punching and kicking 22-year-old Paul Lilley of Southborough, Mass., at the Fish Company bar in Providence.
Howard’s attorney, Mark Smith, says his client will appeal.
