TUCSON, Ariz. (AP) -All week, Arizona coach Mike Stoops told anyone who’d listen that his team had a big opportunity against No. 9 Iowa.
Beat the Hawkeyes and the Wildcats would have a firm place in the national spotlight.
It was probably harder than it needed to be after a slew of big plays early, but Arizona got its marquee win.
Pulling out a character-building last drive and shutting down the Hawkeyes when they needed to, the Wildcats beat Iowa 34-27 in the still-warm desert air late Saturday night.
The win, which could be one of the biggest in program history, moved Arizona up nine spots in The Associated Press poll to 14th.
Iowa dropped to No. 18.
