GAINESVILLE, Fla. (AP) -Florida All-American linebacker Brandon Spikes missed most of the second half of Saturday’s game against Tennessee because of tendinitis in his Achilles’ tendon.
The team’s defensive captain limped off the field early in the game, got his left ankle taped and tried to return. But Spikes ended up getting pulled and replaced by Dustin Doe.
Coach Urban Meyer said Spikes’ injury is “not a major deal.”
Florida had other injury problems Saturday. Receiver Deonte Thompson (hamstring) missed the game, running back Jeff Demps played with a 101-degree fever, and tight end Aaron Hernandez and defensive end Jermaine Cunningham had to be isolated this week because of flulike symptoms. Hernandez and Cunningham both played.
