MADISON, Wis. (AP) – Wisconsin is rested after a bye week and ready to get star tailback Melvin Gordon going again.
Gordon was held to 38 yards on 17 carries two weekends ago in the 19th-ranked Badgers’ 37-3 win over Western Illinois after the lower-division school stacked the box.
Gordon said Monday that he even got some good-natured grief from quarterback Tanner McEvoy after his teammate outrushed him.
Coach Gary Andersen says he doesn’t see Gordon putting extra pressure on himself, though Gordon gives himself a grade of ”D” to start the season.
But Andersen is confident that Gordon and the running game will bounce back. Bowling Green is next for Wisconsin (1-1) this weekend at Camp Randall Stadium.
