STATE COLLEGE, Pa. (AP) – Penn State is back in the AP Top 25 just in time for Saturday’s showdown with No. 3 Alabama.
The Nittany Lions made their season debut in the poll this week at No. 23, coming off a 41-7 rout of FCS school Indiana State in the season opener.
The Crimson Tide present a far greater challenge.
Coach Joe Paterno hopes he’ll be back on the sideline for Alabama, though he said Tuesday that he’s still in some pain. Paterno still uses a crutch, but is moving a little more spryly as he recovers from injuries to his shoulder and pelvis suffered following an accidental hit in practice last month.
Paterno also hasn’t named a starting quarterback for the second straight week. Rob Bolden and Matt McGloin are the candidates.
