ALLIANCE, Ohio (AP) -Nate Kmic rushed for four touchdowns in the first quarter as Mount Union shattered the NCAA record for points in a quarter, piling up 52 in its 75-7 rout of Averett on Saturday.
The defending Division III champion Purple Raiders broke the previous record of 50 points, scored by Alabama State in the second quarter against Prairie View on Oct. 26, 1991.
Kmic had touchdown runs of 65, 17, 2 and 54 yards in the quarter. Mount Union also got points on another run, a blocked punt return, a fumble recovery and a field goal.
Kmic finished with 151 yards on just seven rushes. The win was Mount Union’s 24th in a row.
Averett’s only touchdown was scored by Dontavious Watson on a 3 yard run in the third quarter.
